East Coast Precision Manufacturing
I started working for East Coast Precision Manufacturing in December 2020 operating their CNC mills and lathes to produce, deburr, and QC parts made from a variety of polymers.
CNC Lathe
One of the lines I worked on made these Teflon parts, it is a hollow tube with many important features both externally and internally.
These are the tools I used to QC the parts and determine if I needed to adjust the work offsets of the Lathe. There are both quantitative tests, those involving the micrometer and calipers, as well as qualitative tests like those with the cylinders that must fit or not fit or fit with grip.
This is just a picture of the part being machined on the Hardinge Talent 8/52 SV, the cycle time on this operation is approximately 3-4 minutes.
On a different line I ended up having to open up the back of a lathe to replace a piston rod.
CNC Mill
I also helped on the line that produced these intricate PEI parts that contain internal and external channels.
I operated a Fanc Robodrill α -d14miA5 outfitted with a Nikken 5th axis to perform the 2 operations needed to fabricate the desired part. I changed offsets to account for tool wear, loaded and unloaded parts, and visually verified that each part was made correctly and that the end mills are not too dull.
Since the tolerances on this part are much smaller the tools I used to measure it must be more precise. I used a combination of different micrometers, calipers, and a plunger dial indicator to figure out if an offset must be made then make the offset accordingly.
I ran a mill that made these PVC parts as well, they have a cool recessed colored text on them to label each hole.
Vapor polishing
I also did some vapor polishing for ECPM, I can't talk about the process and don't have any pictures due to an NDA agreement but I vapor polished machined Acrylic and Polycarbonate parts kind of like the one pictured to the left (from ECPM website).
Deburring
This is fairly self-explanatory but I have used several different types of deburring tools to take material off delicate parts
